This burner has good heat control. I use it for low temperature cooking as an adjunct to my gas range...it provides fine control for this purpose. Seems well-built with a true thermostat. Nicely done.The Amazon price was the best at the time I write...many places charge as much as ten dollars more.

I wrote a glowing review of the Toastmaster Eclipse Single Burner after using it twice. Sunday I used it the third time and it stopped working in the middle of cooking soup. I had to lift the heavy soup pot off the burner and carry it to the stove to finish it. DO NOT BUY THIS BURNER! I am preparing it to shipment back to Amazon.Customer Review: New-found kitchen space

I have made soup and stew on this single burner, set on a chest in my dining area. The large heating surface covers the bottom on my soup pot and large skillet. I own a regular hot plate with a burner that is about 5" across. This is useless for my purposes and is going to Goodwill. This Toastmaster single burner frees up the stove in the small kitchen in my small apartment and I love it.Customer Review: Great cooking element -- much more than a hotplate

When my husband and I refurbished the 1935 gas range in our new home last year, we bought this and a few other appliances to hold us over until our stove was usable. I was so impressed with this burner, and still use it in addition to my gas rangetop. You can really, truly cook with this appliance! The temperature control is excellent, with a great range to choose from. (I cooked for years on an electric stove that was not nearly as precise as this burner.) The toastmaster single burner is definitely a product I'd recommend for people without gas burners in their kitchen. Its design is compact, powerful and enables you to cook whatever you want.It saved my life when my burners went out of order!
