I was surprised to see all the negative reviews posted here. I may have been one of the lucky ones, apparently, because I bought my Eclipse elsewhere and have been using it for the past four years without any problems at all.
I like the sleek black beauty of the Eclipse compared with traditional hot plates that have the exposed coil style burners. The flat, grooved, covered burners of the Eclipse look nice and are easy to keep clean. The heating power of the electric burners is less than flame, of course; but that can be taken into consideration when getting used to which numbered settings should be used for which cooking circumstances and keeping in mind that large quantities of food or water will take longer to get up to temperature. I also like the safety and convenience of this electric hot plate versus propane or natural gas. Once the unit has cooled, it can be easily stored out of the way until the next time it is needed. The Toastmaster Eclipse double burner electric hot plate (well, the one I happened to get, anyway!) is compact, portable, functional, very easy to use, and beautiful.

I have had this unit for over 2 years and everything still works just as good as the day I bought it. I use it as my only stove almost daily as I live in a basement apartment. The only problem I have with it is that it takes a while to heat to the point of boiling but once there it stays hot.
